JAKE'S PORTFOLIO
Language Arts Poem Project
My project for the portfolio reflection in language arts is the two poems we had to write. The “Where I’m From Poem” and the “Steal a Line Poem’’. For the “Where I’m From Poem” we had to make poems than had stuff from our childhood that are significant. For the “Steal the Line Poem” we had to take our favorite quote from a song, movie, show, etc. and we have to use that quote over and over again as a repeated refrain to describe your life. We worked on this for 2 weeks in language arts and we had a rubric with curtain requirements we had to follow. Like for the “Steal a Line Poem” we had to at least have 5 stanzas with 4 lines in each section and we had to use our line we stole at least 8 times and we had to give credit to whoever we stole the quote from.
Some of the challenges that occurred during the poems were being detailed about my life because if you weren’t detailed then the people reading your poem would not understand your life. The second challenge that occurred is that it was hard to find a quote that would go with my life because your quote has to resemble your life. I overcame the challenge of being detailed about my life by talking to my teacher, Ms. Miller, and she would ask me why that part of my life was so good and then after that my poem was way more detailed. I overcame the challenge of choosing my quote by thinking of a song I listen to a lot that would represent my life.
My first artifact is my ‘Where I’m From Poem’ and I chose this for my first artifact because it was the first main poem we worked on. I think this artifact shows how I grew in persistence because I had a ton of drafts I had to keep working on like the “I’m from Cincinnati” and it showed me you should never give up even when something is difficult. And now I am at persisting because I give up a lot less. Persistence is to never giving up and to just keep trying.
My second artifact is the ‘‘Steal a Line Poem” I chose this for my second artifact because it was the second main poem we worked on. I think this poem shows how I grew in creativity because during this project I had to be creative with finding a line to steal for my poem. I kept trying to find lines from songs that I liked, but none of them worked, like “I’m Sexy and I Know It” and “Don't Touch the Butt” so I just chose “I Don't Care, I Love It”. So now I’ve learned that you need to expand your mind a lot more to get what you need. Creativity is thinking outside the box and doing stuff that no one else would think of.
