Greatest Growth Statement

I have attended the Dayton Regional STEM School for seven years. Although I have changed and grown as a person very much while attending the school, it is easy to identify where I have shown the greatest growth. I believe my communication skills have been my greatest growth at DRSS. While here, they have taught me how to become a better presenter, how to communicate with group members, and how to professionally communicate with people. An example of this was the Story Book Project in 7th grade. For this project, I had to communicate with my partner to create a story book, We then had to reach out to local businesses to see if they would like to display our book. This project not only helped me with my communication skills while working in a group, but it also helped develop my professional communication skills. In middle school, I could not give presentations in front of a class. I was too nervous, my hands were sweaty, my voice and body shaking uncontrollably. As the years went on, I learned how to appear calm and hit all the important points in a presentation. The Native American Debates are a prime example of how I have grown in my presentation skills. I had a whole sheet full of points I wanted to make, and the list helped me stay focus and calm during the debate.

Professional communication is another huge skill a learned at DRSS. Ever since sixth grade, we were taught how to write a professional email to our teachers. In high school, we learned how to act in interviews, how to write resumes, and how to communicate with future employers. A specific time when I used my professional communication skills was when I had a mock interview. For this, I had to present my resume to a future employer and have proper interview etiquette. This will help me in the future because I feel ready for when I graduate college. I now know the etiquette for applying to jobs and how to follow up with a phone call or email. That is why communication has been my greatest growth.
